<image:title>Blog - 5 Easy Steps to Introduce Your Puppy to Walking on a Leash - STEP 1 OF 5: Introduce your puppy to their collar or harness and leash</image:title>
<image:caption>When you’re first beginning to introduce your dog or puppy to walking or wearing a collar/harness and leash, it is important to allow them to get used to it before launching directly into leash training. Testing it out: Start out by letting him/her get used to wearing a collar or harness and a leash. Let them wear the collar or harness with the leash attached for short periods of time in the house. During this time play with them and give treat rewards! The key reason you are doing this is to establish a positive association between your puppy and their leash. This is critical to all aspects of training your puppy or dog, including leash training. Your puppy will learn to love “collar and leash time” as it represents treats, play, and fun!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - 5 Easy Steps to Introduce Your Puppy to Walking on a Leash - STEP 2 OF 5: Teach them a cue</image:title>
<image:caption>A key part of training is getting your puppies attention, which is where teaching them a “cue” is instrumental. Introduce your puppy to a sound cue meaning “food is coming” and you’ll capture their attention easily. Some people like using clickers, others use a word like “Yes,” and some people cluck their tongue. It doesn’t matter the sound, the method is the same.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - 5 Easy Steps to Introduce Your Puppy to Walking on a Leash - STEP 5 OF 5: Practice, Practice, Practice</image:title>
<image:caption>It is important to continue practicing the steps outline previously outside to continue building positive associations and to establish your puppy’s good leash behavior. This is most easily accomplished by having treats on you during walks outside so if your puppy is getting too distracted you can regain his/her attention. Additionally, our wonderful dog walkers will help reinforce these skills with your pup free of charge contact us for a free 20-minute phone consultation to learn how!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Boston Dog Butlers Travel Guide – Downtown Boston - Let’s Get This Adventure Started!</image:title>
<image:caption>Dogs have a lot of energy, and we understand that more than most! In order to best prepare for the adventurous day ahead, we recommend stopping by Tatte Bakery at one of their dog friendly locations in the morning to fuel up on a caffeinated beverage of your choice. They conveniently provide outdoor seating, so you can enjoy your tasty cup of joe while you and your pup take in the bustling city.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Boston Dog Butlers Travel Guide – Downtown Boston - Enjoy the Boston Common</image:title>
<image:caption>Boston is home to some of the most gorgeous public parks in the northeast, most notably the Boston Common– which (fun fact) is Americas oldest Public Park! The Boston Common is very dog friendly and serves as a playground to dozens of local dogs daily. Be prepared for an impromptu play-date as you are sure to run into other dogs and their owners. The Boston Common is a great area to tucker your dog while you gaze at some of Boston’s most coveted real estate. What are you waiting for? Get out there!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Boston Dog Butlers Travel Guide – Downtown Boston - Lunch for You & Your Pup</image:title>
<image:caption>After a few hours of running around the park, you can reward your dog with a treat at The Polkadog Bakery which has five locations, including South End and North End! Your dog-child is sure to love Polka Dog’s hand-make delicacies that range from traditional bones to clam chowda flavored treats! If you choose to stop in at their South End location you could also poke into Five Horses, South End and eat some (amazing!) human food, outside at their patio. Five horses has a great mix of food ranging from tacos to pizza & beyond that is surely not going to disappoint. For those over 21, kick back and enjoy an alcoholic beverage, we highly recommend checking out their beer list!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Boston Dog Butlers Travel Guide – Downtown Boston - Beat the Heat in South Boston!</image:title>
<image:caption>Boston has plenty of dog friendly options to beat the summer heat, one of our favorites is Castle Island Beach on the eastern most point of South Boston. Dog’s are welcome to join on leash, there are sure to be other friendly pups to play around with as well. After you catch some cosmic rays you can head over to Sullivan’s for a burger or, our favorite, a lobster roll!</image:caption>
